I’ve written a short story! A non-comic book short story! A non-comic book gay contemporary romance* short story! It’s called Home Port!
Here’s the promo blurb:
After months at sea, Petty Officer First Class Dean Mendez is back in San Diego, and he knows exactly how he wants to spend his first night home. Is the beautiful boy he finds on a nightclub dance floor the perfect companion for the evening, or is he much more?
Short story, approximately 6000 words.
This is my first prose creative writing since high school. I’ve been editing the hell out of it, and my plan is to self-publish for a low price with Smashwords —and whichever other on line stores I can figure out; Amazon perhaps— on or by February 14. (Because no one else is gonna be publishing romance on Valentine’s Day, right?) I’ll be posting more work in progress stuff here in the meantime. Stay tuned!
*Fair warning: this story will have f-words and man sex.
Hey you guys! I am reblogging to give my official endorsement to this here FINE, fine piece of sexy writing. How can I give this endorsement just moments after its been made public? Because I had the high privilege of being a beta reader for it before it was released! BAM, JEALOUS MUCH?
But honestly, Colleen Coover is a great storyteller, whether she’s cartooning or writing in prose, and I can’t recommend her work enough to everyone.
And hey! If you like dude-on-dude action, consider this your birthday gift.
Alright, so you watch this, right? And then imagine the first (and second and third) time I watched it, and imagine me popping, like, TEN THOUSAND LADY-BONERS. Because that is what happened.
You know why I love this (besides the obvs)? They’re referencing trad femme things and having fun with it, instead of making fun of trad femme things, like the “Men-Ups” calendar that came out last year. A definite difference, where you’re not mocking body movements and clothing of icky ladies, but using the language to say something—and to recognise that these things are sexy, no matter your presentation.
Also, you guys, I have been keeping my other Tumblr, Touch Wieners, pretty well updated lately! Just in case, y’know, you’re into that kinda thing. (That thing being wieners touching)
I am incredibly excited to officially announce our first comic that will be released in “issue” format, both in print and digitally.
Marie and Jeanne #1 starts a story about two extraordinary girls from Domremy, France in the 15th century. One of them is Joan of Arc. It will be a story about her, of course, and The Siege of Orléans, and ultimately, her death and sentencing - but along the way, it’s mostly just a story about friendship and trust.
The most exciting part of it for me is that it is illustrated by the mindblowingly good artist James Neish, who I’m proud to have known for a really long time(since 5th grade), and one of the two people I first forayed into the comics world with when I was 15(so long ago!). He was the best artist I’d ever met when I was 10, and he played a significant part in instilling a permanent love of fantasy and comics and other assorted nerdy things in me. We’ve grown up and a bit wiser now(well, he is, I’m still a dumbass), but I’m still writing and he’s still illustrating, and I am honored to have been able to hire him to partner with me on this project.
Oh hell yes, I will buy the ever-loving hell out of this!
SHING IS AWESOME, BASICALLY
I LOVE YOU ALI AND ERIKA. No really, I love you. You two are some of my biggest inspirations in this comics and publishing madness and I appreciate every ounce of support and encouragement you’ve always shared with me for…er…a long time JESUS CHRIST WE’VE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR OVER A DECADE.
WE’RE OLD.
(also…er, for those who follow my tumblr, but not Sawdust Press, hey, this is my comic! The art is by James Neish, a super old and awesome friend of mine. The first issue is out in March!)
It blows my mind that a significantly large number of the people who are my professional peers and friends are folks I met in Aimee Major’s forum when I was between the ages of 15-18 years old.
So many little internet nerdling teenagers sharing fan art with each other in the late 90s turned into professional cartoonists, storyboarders, and animators today. And we’re still in contact with each other, we’re still collaborating, inspiring each other, and in each others lives.
Haha, oh god, how did I even do that?? I don’t even know!
Also, why won’t Tumblr turn off the italics? I even went into the html bit and manually wrote </i> before “Haha, oh god…” and yet…. here we are. Italicized.
One of my favorite photo shoots. The only thing she is wearing that is actual clothing is the leather bra. Everything else was acres of fabric that we pinned, tied, wrapped and stuffed into that little bra.
I have that top image hanging in my bedroom, it’s so gorgeous.

So thrilled to share this cover page with two other ridiculously talented writer/illustrator/friend(s), Michael J DiMotta and Erika Moen, both of whom have tumblers that you could be following, but whose links I cannot post because I am on a phone, and at work.
Aw yay, I just got this in the mail today too!
I’m so honored to be included in this book with so many other incredibly talented artists and writers. I definitely teared up reading Jasika Nicole and Lucy Knisley’s submissions. Aaaand, well, honestly, the one page comic I made just for this book is probably the single strip I most proud of having created. So lots of ♥♥♥ all around!
