One of the highlights of exhibiting at the Emerald City Comic-Con for me was getting to be a speaker on the Beyond Categories: Non-Binary Sexuality panel!

Randall Kirby, Leia Weathington, Charles “Zan” Christensen, Ellen Forney, Jason Thompson and myself gathered together to discuss having bi/pan/queer sexualities in a monosexual world where both the straights and the gays don’t accept you (or straight up view you as The Enemy) and our experiences with biphobia– all with a healthy dose of dick jokes and wise-crackin’.

The anthology on non-binary sexuality that Zan is putting together through his publishing house, Northwest Press, is titled “Anything That Loves”, look for it in July.

(The video may take a bit longer than normal to load because I accidentally made the file gigantic? Try unselecting “HD” in the bottom right hand corner and also I’m a cartoonist not a video editor sorry I have no idea how to do anything! ;)

  • Hey guys! This Thursday I am honored to be doing a short reading of my work at Floating World Comics for the No Straight Lines book release party!
WHEN: 6-8pm, Thursday, August 9thWHERE: Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St., Portland, Oregon 97209WHO: Justin Hall, Robert Triptow, Vaughn Frick, and Erika MoenFACEBOOK RSVP: Right here!
What is Fantagraphics’ No Straight Lines anthology?

Queer cartooning has been one of the most vibrant artistic and countercultural movements of the past 40 years, tackling complex issues of identity and changing social mores with intelligence, humor, and an irreverent imagination. LGBTQ comics have often existed in a parallel universe to the rest of the comics world, and this anthology seeks to address that by shining a well-deserved spotlight on some of the best of this extraordinary body of work.

Hope to see some’a you there!

  • Oh my goodness, I’ve been really blown away by the responses to my Queer comic. Seriously, I’ve gotten teared up over the heartfelt emails from my fellow queers who have gone through the same experiences as I have <:) The love and support I’ve received for it mean the fucking world to me.
I’ve also been asked about making the comic available as a print! So, hey! That is a thing now! (For a limited time)
The smallest size I could make it and still retain its legibility was a whopping 8.5” x 24” That’s, like, two feet long :O
So yeah! That is my update. Uhm, hope ya had a good weekend?

  • Queer (English Version)Alright friends, I got the English version online! I just wanted the first day’s worth of hits to go straight to Projet 17 mai, since they’re the ones who asked me to contribute, y’know? /:)
DISCLAIMER: Since this comic is addressing sexual identity, I only included sexualities under the Queer umbrella— although, obviously, queer also encompasses many gender identities as well.
As I said in my post debuting the French version,

Projet 17 mai contacted me several months ago about creating a comic on the theme of homophobia, and though it is definitely something I’ve experienced (being denied service in shops, having people throw garbage, being followed by howling gangs of men, etc. just for holding my girlfriend’s hand), I actually have been more hurt and upset by the biphobia I’ve experienced from the LGBT “community” for falling in love with and marrying a cisgender man. Even bisexuals have been needlessly mean because I feel the term “queer” is a better fit for me instead of “bi” (it’s totally cool if “bisexual” is the term that works for you!! It’s just not the one for me). Basically, the Identity Police have been very hurtful to me (and others who are attracted to multiple genders), so that’s what I did my comic on.
