  • Hey, this is super exciting!
Infinite Issues is a webseries set in a comic shop (and is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter!) and wouldn’tcha know it my very own DAR! books get read by some of the characters in the show!
The creators of the show wrote a little about reaching out to Periscope Studio for books they could use from us. I can’t wait to see this come out!

  • Help us RELAUNCH & EXPAND a Portland institution and a rare outlet for indie media, small press, zines, and D.I.Y. culture!

Beloved indie bookshop Reading Frenzy only has 11 days left to raise 25k to re-open their doors, without this cash they will be closed forever after 18 excellent years of catering to and helping cultivate both the creators and lovers of Portland’s independent books, zines and minicomics.

They were one of the very first stores in Oregon to carry my wee little minicomics when I began visiting from Seattle during my high school years.

I’ve pledged, I hope you do too.

  • Yo Portland, Have Some Free Workshops: Creative Motivation & Kick-Ass Kickstarters

Lucy is a natural public speaker and these two lectures sound seriously awesome. I’m going to attempt to make it to the Kickstarter one and if you live in the Portland area, you should really come check these out.

Yessir, Portland people. Next week you have two opportunities to come talk with me about creative stuff. These puppies are open to the public and will involve SNACKS. Do I have your attention yet? Good!

First up is Freelance Badassery 101: Maintaining Enthusiasm in the Face of the Unknown (Monday, January 21st, 5pm-7pm). This is a long and fancy-sounding name for a very simple class. The goal is to help you figure out what you love doing, then empower you to do it more and do it better. It’s a class for anyone wishing to light a creative fire under their ass. It’s gonna have some nitty-gritty info about contracts and taxes and invoices and other business things that might be useful to a freelancer, but what comes first is the Work. And that’s what we’re going to tackle head-on. BYO creative self-doubt demons. They’ll be begging for mercy by the time we’re done. Facebook event with directions and other info is here!

The second workshop is Kickstarter Bootcamp: Harnessing the Herd to Make Your Creative Dreams Come True (Wednesday, January 23rd, 5pm-7pm). This will be a hands-on, practical info workshop for those wishing to fund their creative endeavors. The first hour will cover Kickstarter basics, then we’ll critique specific projects. If you have something brewing that you’d like feedback or advice on, bring it in! I’ll be spilling all the dark secrets I learned while riding out the True Believer Kickstarter (730% funded?! How is that even POSSIBLE?!) and incorporating lessons from other successful projects in the Portland area. Facebook event with directions and other info is here!

Both workshops will take place in the Gray Campus Center at Reed College (3203 SE Woodstock Blvd.). The GCC sits in the central Quad and also houses the College’s dining hall. Parking is available in the North Lot (enter on SE Steele and SE 33rd) or the East Lot (enter on SE Woodstock and SE 36th). The workshops will be held in the Campus Center conference rooms, GCC B, GCC C, and GCC D. Most anyone should be able to steer you towards them, if campus maps prove unhelpful.

    Hope to see you there!

  • Okay, so Dylan Meconis’ kickstarter has been successfully funded, but here is why you should pledge today, its final day, before it closes:

When you pre-order any of her three books through this Kickstarter, you are getting them 10% off cover price. Plus, there’s a whole bunch of nifty patches and doodads that have been unlocked, so you get some extra trinkets as well!

So if you were figuring you would just wait to buy one (or all!) of her new books once they’re printed, you will be losing out on that sweet 10% discount off of cover price (plus the extra incentive gifts).

    So yeah!

Today is the final day to make your pledge! Get while the gettin’s good!

  • Dylan Meconis, my best friend of over a decade, has just launched her first Kickstarter campaign to fund not one, not two, but THREE books of hers! She is a wonderful, hardworking artist with years of experience self-publishing, so this girl knows how to get shit done and make it look amazing. But she needs some up-front cash to make this all happen!

    This money goes towards:

-Re-printing Bite Me! (And if the KS cracks $17890, we’ll get a BRAND NEW 11 page story about Audric!)

-Printing her Eisner Award-nominated short story, Outfoxed, for the first time!

-Printing a mini art book of her Danse Macabre 2.0 illustrations

And even if you can’t back this project yourself, at least watch her video— it is delightful and entertaining and I refuse to believe you have a human heart if you don’t laugh at least once.
