Like for just about everyone, 2012 was a kick in the financial pants for me and my family. Beginning of 2013 could have been a little better as well.
I’m going to say straight out, if you were ever thinking of buying an edition of Dicebox : Book 1, now’s the time. In fact, if I can sell at least 110 softbound copies (or the equivalent) in the next month, things would be back on an even keel for me and mine.
To entice you to do so, I’m offering free shipping within the United States and a $5 USD discount on shipping to everywhere else. Heck, this shipping discount applies to everything in the store until I reach my goal.
I will also do sketches in the first 25 printed books ordered from this moment.
Additionally, for the next little while, any week there’s $400 USD received in sales or donations will see an extra page from me. If there’s $800 USD received, I’ll make it two! This’ll be possible as I have no current freelance commitments and so the money made in Dicebox sales goes to reserve my time.
But whatever you might be able to do, thank you. There wouldn’t be a comic without the support I have already received over the years, the verbal and written as well as the money and gifts.
Dicebox is one of the most gorgeous comics you will ever have the good fortune of reading. Believe me, you want a copy of this book! It’s full of sci-fi, spacey stuff as a background element to the very real, very powerful relationship between the protagonists and also because this is Tumblr I guess it doesn’t hurt to add that gender-fuckery and WTFBBQ sexuality are treated as normal.
One of the highlights of exhibiting at the Emerald City Comic-Con for me was getting to be a speaker on the Beyond Categories: Non-Binary Sexuality panel!
Randall Kirby, Leia Weathington, Charles “Zan” Christensen, Ellen Forney, Jason Thompson and myself gathered together to discuss having bi/pan/queer sexualities in a monosexual world where both the straights and the gays don’t accept you (or straight up view you as The Enemy) and our experiences with biphobia– all with a healthy dose of dick jokes and wise-crackin’.
The anthology on non-binary sexuality that Zan is putting together through his publishing house, Northwest Press, is titled “Anything That Loves”, look for it in July.
(The video may take a bit longer than normal to load because I accidentally made the file gigantic? Try unselecting “HD” in the bottom right hand corner and also I’m a cartoonist not a video editor sorry I have no idea how to do anything! ;)
Oh dang, thanks to Kenzie for pointing this out to me! I’m very flattered to be included as a queer comic artist to check out :) Sometimes I’m sad about how much biphobia I’ve encountered from the queer community for falling in love with my partner, but I maintain hope that someday these people who are lashing out with intolerance will remember that there’s room in the acronym for those of us who are not monosexual. The B in LGBT doesn’t stand for Bacon ;)

Erika Moen - artist/writer
Some of Erika’s illustrations/dialogue is NSFW. Please be advised. Also, some of Tumblr has been really harsh about Erika’s marriage to a cisman and her views of queer politics. If you would like to hear some responses to Erika’s work within the comic industry and her feelings about sexuality as it evolves, I highly recommend watching her visit to Yale video below.

Oooooooooh dang! It is that time of year again! EMERALD CITY COMIC-CONTIME!
My BFF Dylan Meconis and I will be booth-ing it up again at booth 2615. We’ve co-tabled at every single ECCC, I think.
My table will be spilling over with copies of my books, prints and limited edition screenprints.
And then, of course, there’s the panels and signings. Oh! What glorious signings and panels there shall be!

PHEW! It took me ages and it’s not perfect, but here is the recording of my Queering Up Comics talk I gave at Yale University earlier this month!

(The View x-posted from my real blog)
Oh hey, I guess I kinda forgot to mention that this anthology I’m in, The Letter Q: Queer Writers’ Letters to their Younger Selves, was praised by (and held in) Whoopi Goldberg’s hands on the TV show The View. It aired June 21st, I think?
I saw a video snippet at the time, but can’t find it now to share with you guys.
You’ll just have to beliiiiiieve meeeeeee!
I created a brand new comic just for this anthology which is not available online except for at the 17:30 minute mark in this video of me reading at Pacific University last year.
You can get a copy through independent bookseller Powells or juggernaut Amazon. Half of all profits go to The Trevor Project! (All us contributors donated our work, we’re not profiting)
