Behind the Scenes: Octopus Reloaded
I won’t be working on the edits for a while since I have other work that needs to be done first, but I thought a sneak preview of the shoot would be nice. Again, the model’s hair just happened to be the same color as the tentacles without my knowledge. My lovely assistant Phillip is featured wrangling the tentacles, Erika Moen as the the beautiful canvas.
Oh daaaaaaaang! This is how I spent my Saturday morning, covered in vaseline and octopus tentacles in the company of friends.
Wanted to show this again (here you go Chris). Created for a Halloween Party for a friend.
This was my Halloween mask in 2010 and continues to be on display on my living room wall to this day!
I’m amazed at how sturdy and secure it is, while being totally lightweight— all while being made solely of paper, glue and paint!
Octopus mask I did as a commission for Halloween two years ago for Erika Moen.
This is hanging on my wall and is one of my prized possessions. Can you believe it is ALL PAPER with some gorgeous painting on it?? It is surprisingly light while still being sturdy and, of course, easy to wear!
Y’all should follow the hell out of phillipvaldez because he is a WIZARD at papercraft.

He did three blog posts about the construction of this bad boy, here, here and here.

I commissioned him to make me a mask based off this illustration I drew for Halloween. It came out pretty fucking cool, if I do say so myself u_u
More photos of it over here, plus links to his blog posts showing it in various stages of completion.
I created this as a project for Adobe Systems at the request of Russell Preston Brown for a photoshoping seminar. The idea was to show an old photoshop box with eyes cut out and then use my mask to demonstrate the evolution of the new photoshop masking functions.
