Dear Perverts, did you know that I launched a brand new comic last Friday? I did!
Oh Joy, Sex Toy is my latest project; a celebration of fornication with a weekly review of sex toys or coverage of events relating to everything in the wonderful world of sex!
It strives to be relevant to all genders, anatomies and sexualities with guest interviewers who posses the body parts, knowledge and experiences that I may not personally possess.
It updates weekly on Tuesdays, which means tomorrow my very first actual review will be going live! Hope you enjoy, perverts!
Like for just about everyone, 2012 was a kick in the financial pants for me and my family. Beginning of 2013 could have been a little better as well.
I’m going to say straight out, if you were ever thinking of buying an edition of Dicebox : Book 1, now’s the time. In fact, if I can sell at least 110 softbound copies (or the equivalent) in the next month, things would be back on an even keel for me and mine.
To entice you to do so, I’m offering free shipping within the United States and a $5 USD discount on shipping to everywhere else. Heck, this shipping discount applies to everything in the store until I reach my goal.
I will also do sketches in the first 25 printed books ordered from this moment.
Additionally, for the next little while, any week there’s $400 USD received in sales or donations will see an extra page from me. If there’s $800 USD received, I’ll make it two! This’ll be possible as I have no current freelance commitments and so the money made in Dicebox sales goes to reserve my time.
But whatever you might be able to do, thank you. There wouldn’t be a comic without the support I have already received over the years, the verbal and written as well as the money and gifts.
Dicebox is one of the most gorgeous comics you will ever have the good fortune of reading. Believe me, you want a copy of this book! It’s full of sci-fi, spacey stuff as a background element to the very real, very powerful relationship between the protagonists and also because this is Tumblr I guess it doesn’t hurt to add that gender-fuckery and WTFBBQ sexuality are treated as normal.
Oh dang, thanks to Kenzie for pointing this out to me! I’m very flattered to be included as a queer comic artist to check out :) Sometimes I’m sad about how much biphobia I’ve encountered from the queer community for falling in love with my partner, but I maintain hope that someday these people who are lashing out with intolerance will remember that there’s room in the acronym for those of us who are not monosexual. The B in LGBT doesn’t stand for Bacon ;)

Erika Moen - artist/writer
Some of Erika’s illustrations/dialogue is NSFW. Please be advised. Also, some of Tumblr has been really harsh about Erika’s marriage to a cisman and her views of queer politics. If you would like to hear some responses to Erika’s work within the comic industry and her feelings about sexuality as it evolves, I highly recommend watching her visit to Yale video below.

So, last night after I posted a few comics about misconceptions about sexual orientation people seem to have/experience, I got about 50 messages in my inbox. At least. I’m not kidding!
I want to get to them all, but I can’t promise I will.
Just know this - whatever age you are, you don’t have to put a label on what you are or what you like. If you want to, that’s okay! It’s perfectly normal to want to identify with a group. I’m just saying it isn’t necessary. You don’t have to be bisexual or gay or straight or asexual or any of a thousand other identifiers. You can just be you. When it comes down to it, it’s only really important to the people you’re choosing to share it with. Who that is, well - that’s up to you.
You don’t have to come out if you’re not ready. You don’t have to tell your parents if you’re afraid of their reactions. It’s your business. You don’t have to decide your sexuality and write it down in permanent marker if you’re 16, or 30, or 78! Just be you, do what you like with people you trust who treat you with respect, and try not to hurt anyone in the process. Don’t freak out if you become attracted to someone you’re not ‘supposed to’ because of how you identify. It’s okay! Really. You can identify as a lesbian for years and then become attracted to a man, and that’s not wrong. Sexuality is fluid and sometimes unpredictable! Don’t beat yourself up over it. If someone asks you ‘what’ you are, it’s your choice whether or not to tell them. It’s perfectly legitimate to say you’re not sure, or unwilling to share that part of yourself.
Be nice to others, but for goodness’ sake, be kind to yourself.
Haha, I was all nodding my head and saying “yes, yes” and then I was like “Ooh, who is she linking to as an example, I love finding more people who have experienced this” and it was a link to me /:)
Thank you for the shout out, Kate, and rock the fuck on all you lovers who just wanna love outside of the label box.
Queer (English Version)
Alright friends, I got the English version online! I just wanted the first day’s worth of hits to go straight to Projet 17 mai, since they’re the ones who asked me to contribute, y’know? /:)
DISCLAIMER: Since this comic is addressing sexual identity, I only included sexualities under the Queer umbrella— although, obviously, queer also encompasses many gender identities as well.
As I said in my post debuting the French version,
Projet 17 mai contacted me several months ago about creating a comic on the theme of homophobia, and though it is definitely something I’ve experienced (being denied service in shops, having people throw garbage, being followed by howling gangs of men, etc. just for holding my girlfriend’s hand), I actually have been more hurt and upset by the biphobia I’ve experienced from the LGBT “community” for falling in love with and marrying a cisgender man. Even bisexuals have been needlessly mean because I feel the term “queer” is a better fit for me instead of “bi” (it’s totally cool if “bisexual” is the term that works for you!! It’s just not the one for me).
Basically, the Identity Police have been very hurtful to me (and others who are attracted to multiple genders), so that’s what I did my comic on.
To be fair, though, saying “I’m attracted to Slytherins / Hufflepuffs / Ravenclaws” does imply things about your character.
Gender, not so much.
Saying that you feel a certain way right now does not necessarily mean you will always feel that way. Once a label is attached to you, many people will act like you’ve joined a team and expect you to act a certain way all the time. If you find yourself being pulled in another direction, some may accuse you of being bad at whatever they’ve decided to call you, some may feel betrayed because they saw some solidarity in sharing a label with you and now you’re behaving in a way they don’t identify with. They think that by taking a label (or having one applied to you), you’re committed to a certain set of lifestyle rules and by stepping outside those boundaries you’ve personally affronted them somehow. It’s a stupid way to treat people, but it happens a lot.
I respect a person’s right to say “it doesn’t matter, you don’t need to concern yourself with it unless we plan on having sex at some point.”
Yes, 1,000 times yes.
People make the mistake of thinking that my personal sexual identity somehow has any relevance to their personal sexual identity.
I know this may sound funny coming from a promiscuous guy who makes a living taking photos of naked girls but to some degree I consider myself a feminist. In fact shooting girls has made me a bigger one. Having read the shitty comments and heard stories from girls who got tormented by people after having their pictures published on my site has made me so upset with all the puritanical assholes who think they have a right to say anything about what a girl wants to do with her own body.
Stop calling girls sluts.
Nudity and sexuality are awesome. I don’t know anyone who wants less sex in their lives and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t look at porn from time to time. So why the fuck would you ever criticize someone for giving that shit to you?
Guys guess what happens when you call a girl a slut? She becomes ashamed and embarrassed of her sexuality. Guess what happens then? Everyone gets less sex. How is that awesome? It is not. Fuck you.
Women calling women sluts is even worse. Even if you are in some sort of boring long term relationship with someone you love doesn’t mean you should judge someone else. And maybe one day you are going to do something that someone else would consider “slutty”. Do you wan’t people calling you a whore just because you wanted to enjoy yourself. No. So stop calling out other girls for having fun with their lives.
I have very mixed feelings about a site like Is Anyone Up. If you are hiding under a rock it’s a site started by my friend Hunter Moore where he posts naked photos of people that get submitted to his site. Most of these people do not want their photos published. It is fucking cruel and the comments are brutal. It’s just full off assholes calling girls sluts because they took some naked photos for someone they probably trusted at the time. It’s pretty clearly an evil site but I do see an upside.
Is Anyone Up pretty much proves that EVERYONE is sending nudes to everyone and hopefully people will start accepting the fact that being naked and having sexuality is not a horrible thing. People think their lives are ruined once their nudes get out there, and clearly it can have some real life consequences, but I think for most people it’s just embarrassing for a little bit and you move on. With a site like Is Anyone Up you see that you aren’t alone and maybe some of the stigma behind naked photos will start to disappear.
I want to see everyone naked. I want more nudity. I want more sex and you assholes are ruining it. Stop. Stop making fun of the way someone looks naked. No one should feel horrible about enjoying sex and no one should be ashamed of their own body. Fuck you people.
Stop calling girls sluts.
It is funny (It is not funny. It is sad.) how everyone wants to see naked pictures of women, but nobody wants there to be real, living, breathing, feeling, thinking human beings behind those photos. Pictures are just supposed to spring out of a void, but oh my god, should there be an actual identity behind that picture of a naked woman? GASP. HORROR. HOW COULD SHE.
I’ve heard it multiple times that “the only reason” people read my comics is because there’s naked pictures of me on the internet. But if someone were only interested in looking at photos of my awesome tits, why would they bother reading my comics where there are no photos of said awesome tits? It doesn’t make sense!
No.
People that want to see naked pictures of me look at the naked pictures of me. People that read my comics do so because they like my comics. (And, to be fair, sometimes it is the same person who is enjoying both -but for the individual merits of each medium!)
I draw comics. I pose for photos. I create really cool images for people to look at for free on the internet. I’m a complete, awesome person who makes shit and gets naked.
Love it— ‘cos I do!
